General information
Decron’s origins begin in the 1950s when Jack M. Nagel first arrived in Southern California. A Polish-born immigrant and Holocaust survivor, Jack arrived in America with little more than the shirt on his back.
Sensing opportunity in Southern California’s rapid growth and determined to succeed in his new home country, Jack began building single family homes for US Army veterans. With time and tremendous determination, his business grew and prospered. The company went on to build thousands of homes in Orange, Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Eventually, the business transitioned into multifamily residential apartments. Jack focused on Hollywood and other budding areas of Los Angeles. Later in the 1980s, he developed a number of retail and office properties. Not content to merely work as a developer, Jack operated all of his completed projects.
The company continued to grow and in 1988 Jack’s youngest son, David Nagel, joined him in a newly named company – Decron Properties Corp. – to oversee all aspects of their real estate business. Decron expanded its portfolio of investments through acquisitions, purchasing multifamily apartments and retail and office buildings. The company also continued its legacy of construction with major development projects throughout greater Los Angeles. The overwhelming majority of the residential and retail projects developed in the 1970s and 1980s are still owned and managed by Decron.
Today, Decron Properties Corp. is a diversified real estate company specializing in the acquisition, development, and management of multifamily apartment buildings, commercial shopping centers, office buildings, and marinas. It manages more than 4,700 apartment units, with another 460 under development, and more than 3 million square feet of office and retail space across California and Nevada. The company has evolved into $1.5 billion enterprise with 55 different projects and communities contained within its portfolio. All of these projects are owned by Decron related entities.
David J. Nagel, Chief Executive Officer and President, leads our company today. Our senior management team brings more than 150 years of combined real estate experience, including our still active chairman and founder, Jack M. Nagel.
Headquartered in Los Angeles, Decron Properties still remains true to its origins. We began and we remain, first and foremost, builders. Even though our business continues to evolve, the role of “builder” is still an apt metaphor for our values and culture. Builders create and maintain a legacy that endures and appreciates over time.
