General information

Our opticians, technicians and assistants are certified by the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) and the American Optometric Association Paraoptometric Section. We expand our knowledge of eye care, glasses, contact lenses, LASIK and eye diseases with frequent continuing education.

Dr. Karen Wharton earned her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1983 from Pacific University College of Optometry in Oregon, and has practiced optometry in Colorado ever since then. She enjoys the challenge of finding the right solution for each individual patient’s eye care needs, whether the patient needs glasses, contact lenses, LASIK, CRT, or help with an eye problem such as infection, dry eyes, glaucoma or cataracts. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and Colorado Optometric Association. Dr. Wharton served on the Colorado State Board of Optometric Examiners for eight years. Outside of the office, she enjoys reading, hiking and traveling with her husband Eugene.

The Colorado Optometric Association selected Dr. Wharton as Colorado's 2010 Optometrist of the Year in recognition of service to the profession and the visual welfare of the community!

Dr. Potter grew up on a farm in the small farming community of Delta on the western slope of Colorado. After graduating with distinction from the University of Colorado with a degree in Biochemistry and minor in Chemistry, Dr. Potter went on to study Optometry at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. She received her Doctor of Optometry Degree with distinction in 2007.

Dr. Potter lives in the Boulder area with her husband, and is excited to be a part of the Sunrise Vision Care team. During her free time she enjoys tennis, snow and water skiing, running, volleyball, and traveling.

Dr. Potter cares for patients of all ages including children. Her specialties include LASIK co-management, contact lenses and specialty contact lenses, as well as, eye problems such as glaucoma, allergies and dry eye. She is a member of both the American Optometric Association and the Colorado Optometric Association.
