General information

At Elk Run Early Childhood Center we are dedicated to providing a safe and caring atmosphere where our students can learn in a developmentally appropriate, caring, and supportive school environment. The “whole child” is addressed cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically.
We believe that parents and teachers must take an active part together in the education of our children. Families are and always will be a child’s first and most influential teachers! Parent involvement and assistance is vital to ensure student success. Our programs are most successful when home and school work together.
The Waterloo Community School District has adopted Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) district-wide. At Elk Run we practice Early Childhood PBIS. This framework provides the structure for our school-wide discipline plan.
Our school is home to 150 three, four, and five year old students. Waterloo Community Schools and Tri-County Head Start have partnered to provide quality early childhood programs for eligible preschool children.
Our teachers strive to make the first school experience a positive one by partnering with families and working to meet the individual needs of each student who walks through the doors at Elk Run. The Creative Curriculum and the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment help to ensure that every student reaches a high level of academic achievement as determined by state and district standards. We have a structured and comprehensive support system that includes instructional decision making and problem solving teams that enable teachers to identify students who require supplemental instruction in order to meet district objectives or who need enrichment opportunities in order to meet their unique needs.
We, at Elk Run Early Childhood Center, believe that all children come to us with special strengths, a wealth of experiences, and tremendous potential. Diversity is celebrated and provides enrichment!
