“Be More Than Mortgage Professional” - The Story of Province Mortgage

July of 2005 marked the official realization of David Currie’s vision, as he became President of his new mortgage brokerage firm, Province Mortgage Associates, Inc. A 15 year veteran of the mortgage industry, Dave became one of thousands of mortgage brokers and lenders fighting for a piece of the New England market. As the Province story began, the early signs of the subprime lending crisis were already beginning to spark the worst real estate decline since the S & L crisis of the early 90’s. In a sea of quick talking sales people just looking to “sell you a loan”, Dave set out to make a difference, as he built his long term plan for success around one word: SERVICE.

As the doors opened at Province it began with a strong senior team of successful mortgage advisors and loan processors who existed together as a cohesive team for many years. “We were like-minded in our core principles, and we were all well trained on providing the best mortgage experience on the streets”, says Currie. Within months of launching Province, clients quickly noticed matted frames that were proudly displayed on the walls with the title, “Our Principles.” There was no question that the employees at this particular mortgage company held each other accountable to a higher standard. “We wanted to be more than just mortgage professionals.” This attitude would prove to be the formula for success, and the reason Province has continued to grow in each of its first nine years of existence.

As the nation began to experience the decay of the real estate market, Province was growing and attracting some of the top mortgage talent in the area. These mortgage professionals were proactively searching for the best environment in which to thrive and successfully build their business. They found their new home at Province, with outstanding leadership, a truly dedicated support staff, and “out of the box” programs like “MORE” (Mortgage Organizational Resource and Education), which brings credit and mortgage education to the workplace. As federal and state regulations tightened and local competitors slowly began to disappear, Province was recognized as one the “Best Places to Work in RI” by the Providence Business News six times with a #1 top ranking in 2012. These seasoned, like-minded mortgage professionals made the difference, and the people of Province will always represent their competitive advantage.

2010 marked the transition from broker to lender in RI and MA, and Province once again hit yet another plateau of excellence and service to their mortgage clientele. As the Province employees continue to share best practices at each bi-weekly meeting, this diamond in the rough continues to “wow” their mortgage clients, impress their business partners, and inspire the many charitable institutions and non-profits that benefit from their collective effort to give back.

The staff at Province Mortgage Associates has worked diligently to earn one the best reputations in the New England Real Estate market. “Our focus has always been our clients and our ability to provide them with the best mortgage experience possible”, says David Currie. “I read every single survey that comes back to us after each closing and the same accolade continues to ring true: our service!” From the early years as a broker and later on in the company’s evolution as a correspondent lender, Province has always been able to perform at a high level through proper expectations, outstanding communication, and an Operations staff second to none. Everything Province had accomplished through 2013 was done without one piece that their people knew would launch them to new heights when the time was right.

That last piece became a reality in April 2014 when Province Mortgage Associates became a Delegated Mortgage Lender. Currie continued, “In making this transition it was imperative for me to find the right people to lead us into the future, and with the addition of in house underwriting, Province seems to have everything we could ever need to compete with anyone in our market.” In 2015, Province took another step to grow with the acquisition of Constitution Mortgage located in Cheshire, CT. This seasoned team of mortgage professionals share in the same Province philosophy for world class service, and it allowed Province the opportunity to expand further into the CT market.

On July 16th 2015, the team of mortgage professionals at Province Mortgage Associates, Inc. celebrated their 10th anniversary as one of the most reputable mortgage lenders based out of the Greater Providence area. For their first 10 years of existence, they have been headquartered at 10 Davol Sq. in Providence, RI renting space owned and operated by Brown University. President, David Currie proudly announced the purchase of their own building at 50 Office Parkway located just of Rt. 44 adjacent to the Stop & Shop Plaza in East Providence, RI. This beautifully renovated building has become their new headquarters, giving this team 4600 sq. feet of space to expand their business of helping homeowners.

Perhaps one of the greatest accomplishments for the Province Team had nothing to do with mortgage production. 2016 became a recording breaking year for Province Mortgage closing more loans with the highest volume numbers since opening in 2005. Beyond their 7th time being voted “One of the Best Places to Work” in RI and winning the 2016 Business Excellence Award for small companies was their celebration of the life of former Operations Manager, Chris Amaral. Chris passed away after a very short battle with cancer in 2014, and in September 2016, Province created and ran the 1st Annual Chris Amaral Memorial MINI-Golf Tournament. With their employees, family, friends, and their professional network fully engaged in making this event one to remember, they raised $11,000 for “The Tomorrow Fund” to benefit children and their families fighting cancer.

We work hard to educate our clients on becoming successful homeowners. We inspire our people to be the best version of themselves they can imagine. We challenge our partners to create new and innovative ways to earn referral business. Province has accomplished in their first 11 years what many local competitors have taken many decades to create. From just a few employees to now close to 50 with multiple locations throughout New England, Province continues to emit inspiration as they strive to be more than just mortgage professionals for their clients, their people, and their business partners.
