Nature-based Outdoor Play

A connection with the natural world is crucial to a child’s development. Research has shown that spending time outdoors is an important part of a child’s overall physical and mental well-being. We spend a good portion of our days outside.

Healthy Environment

I follow the Eco-Healthy Child Care® Program guidelines to minimize exposure to lead, radon, mercury, and toxic chemicals commonly found in homes, buildings, household items and children's toys.

Real Food

You will find no Lucky Charms or corndogs here! We eat only real food, free from artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, hydrogenated oils, and high-fructose corn syrup. Sugar is extremely limited.

Play-based Learning

I use open-ended toys and "loose parts" both inside and outside to spark a child's imagination and help them to develop problem-solving and logical thinking skills. I strive to create an environment that offers opportunity and challenge.

Nonviolent Communication

Nonviolent Communication (NVC) skills are practiced and taught here. We use NVC skills to express our feelings and needs in a healthy way and to understand the feelings and needs of others.

Screen Time

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than two hours per day of screen time for children ages 2+ and no screen time at all for children under the age of two. I use screen time only in limited situations to support the preschool curriculum. For example, we may watch a short clip of a symphony performance during our music lesson.
