The history of this unique product began in 1906, when inventor Marshall B. Lloyd founded the Lloyd Manufacturing Company in Menominee, Michigan. The company quickly became famous for its wicker baby buggies and children's wicker furniture. In 1917, Marshall Lloyd revolutionized the wicker industry with his Lloyd Loom, a weaving machine that could do the work of thirty men. The Heywood-Wakefield Company purchased Lloyd Manufacturing in 1921 and the popularity of Lloyd Loom wicker increased rapidly throughout the United States.
On December 20, 1982, Flanders Industries of Fort Smith, Arkansas purchased the Lloyd Looms and former Lloyd Company facilities from the Heywood-Wakefield Company. Lloyd Flanders began producing wicker furniture on the Lloyd Looms in January of 1983.
In 1985, Lloyd Flanders introduced the first all-weather wicker furniture to the casual furniture industry with its now-retired Heirloom line.
