Tech Valley High School

General information

Tech Valley High School is a public high school that provides a project-based approach to learning. That means students learn in hands-on projects based in real-world applications of common core subjects.

TVHS was established in 2007 through the collaboration of Questar III and Capital Region BOCES and is open to all students in those BOCES’s component school districts at no cost to parents. The school is located on the campus of the Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, making TVHS uniquely situated to provide access to technology resources and partnerships students need to excel in the global economy. Part of the New Tech Network, TVHS is dedicated to teaching learning outcomes like communication, collaboration, technology and content literacy, knowing and thinking and self-direction — skills identified by business and higher education leaders as being crucial to the 21st century economy.

The school partners with business leaders throughout the region to incorporate true-to-life experience into student learning by both bringing experts into the classroom and putting students into the workplace. In the heart of the region’s fast-growing technology sector, TVHS exposes students to aspects of the global economy while building on its mission of developing 21st century skills and meeting New York State learning standards.

TVHS hosts approximately 140 students in grades nine through 12. Historically it has a 99 percent graduation rate, a 100 percent college acceptance rate and a 93 percent college attendance rate. Nearly 50 percent of TVHS graduates pursue degrees in Science Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), compared to 9 percent nationwide.
