General information

Fencing is an exhilarating sport that combines the cardio workout of a good day at the gym with the mental workout of a chess game and the adrenaline rush of defending yourself from a determined attack. Quite simply, there is nothing else like it!

While fencing my appear to be dangerous, the truth is that there are almost no safer sport. In fact, in the history of U.S. fencing, there has never been a death. Fencing insurance rates are the lowest in the sports industry thanks to excellent protective equipment and established standards.

The Nashville Fencing Club hosts classes at the Cool Springs YMCA on Seaboard Lane, every Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Classes are broken down into three categories: (1) Beginner's Foil, (2) Intermediate Foil, and (3) Beginner's Epee.

Beginner's Foil is a 4 week, six hour course. Enrollment is $120.00 per course. Payment is due by cash or check the first night of classes.

Beginner's Foil class size is limited to 20, ages 10 and up. Equipment is included.

Intermediate Foil is a 4 week, six hour course. Enrollment is $120.00 per course.

Intermediate Foil class size is limited to 12, ages 10 and up. Students are encouraged to purchase their own equipment at this level. However, equipment is available. This course will build on the fundamentals learned in Beginning Foil while teaching advanced blade work and tactics. Students will also be introduced to the saber and epee.

Beginner's Epee is 4 week, six hour course. Enrollment is $120.00 per course.

This course is recommended for those that have completed the Beginner's Foil and Intermediate Foil.
