Laurelwood Community Preschool is an innovative school created by a group of educators who are inspired with a strong image of the child in mind. Laurelwood is situated on a beautiful, wooded one-acre site in a house that has been renovated to meet 5-star licensing standards. Our philosophy embraces creativity, individuality, collaboration, nature, and freedom for children to be the leaders of their own learning.
An emergent, project-based curriculum inspires a context for cultivating creativity and critical thinking skills with a focus on the expressive arts and natural sciences. Children’s interests, ideas, and questions about the world create a launching point for in-depth studies and investigations where literacy, mathematics, and science are woven into their experiences. We believe it is far more important for children to learn how to think than to be told what to think.
