Middlesex County Building Inspctr Company Information

General information

Middlesex County was founded in 1673 after separating from Lancaster County. The County is comprised of 135 linear miles of shoreline bounded by the Rappahannock River to the northeast, the Piankatank River and Dragon Run to the southwest and the Chesapeake Bay to the east.

The central northern portion of the County is home to the VA Motor Speedway! A fantastic dirt racing track and mud bog facility with races running on select Saturdays throughout the season.

Traveling South-East from here is the historic Town of Urbanna. The Town is situated along the Rappahannock River and Urbanna Creek and is well known for the Urbanna Oyster Festival! This year the festival will be held on November 1st and 2nd. Make sure to mark your calendar!! Urbanna is the home of the Urbanna Harbor, many wonderful restaurants, local shops and marinas. Located just outside of the Town is the nationally known and celebrated Beth Page Campground!

Farther inland from here you will find the County Seat of Saluda, home to the Middlesex Museum & Chesty Puller Park, retail shops, restaurants and beauty salon. Be sure to stop in on your visit to the County to see all of the hard work that’s been done in the Museum! The County is thrilled to have such a wonderful, knowledgeable and active museum body.

Heading back east you will come to the Topping area of the county. Here you can find the Hummell Air Field, known not only as a premier private airport but also for the annual Wings, Wheels & Keels event which will be held on September 28th of this year. Mark your calendar and come out for a day of family fun! This area is also where you can find the now famous Merrior Restaurant, Eckharts fine dining, BBQ and the Pilot House restaurant just to name a few. If you are feeling adventurous, Bay Aviation can take you on an airplane tour of the county! Topping also boasts a fantastic campground, Greys Point.

Heading inland and south-east from here is the Hartfield area of the county. There are several very nice consignment shops, Coffman’s gift shop, several restaurants including an Debbie’s along Rt. 33 and an Italian restaurant that delivers to this area, Dano’s Pizza just to name a few! You can also find one of the most unique and beautiful courses in Virginia, Piankatank River Golf Club. The front nine is tree lined with gentle rolling hills giving you a mountain course feel. On the back nine, the course flattens out with three holes along the magnificent Piankatank River. Hartfield is inland from its neighboring area known as Wake. Wake is bordered by Hartfield to the south and the Rappahannock River to the north. The very relaxing, Bush Park Camp Resort is found in this area of the County as well as a Mill Creek public boat ramp.

Continuing East from here, is the village of Deltaville which is known as the Boating Capital of the Chesapeake Bay. Deltaville is located between the mouths of the Rappahannock and Piankatank Rivers and was once a major center for wooden boat building. The village remains a commercial and recreational center today with a plethora of great shops, restaurants and J&W’s seafood. Deltaville also has the largest number of individual marinas in its area as compared to other areas of the County.

Regardless of where you begin your stay in Middlesex please visit all of our area attractions from the VA Motor Speedway, to the Town of Urbanna, Hartfield and Deltaville! Middlesex has remained largely rural over the years with farming, forestry, fin and shell fishing and tourism providing the principal elements of its economic base. Its geographical location has helped it to retain its rural character while also making it the perfect place to recapture childhood memories of summer days spent on a boat, catching crabs and water skiing. Middlesex is your destination for fun! We offer, boating, golfing, charter cruises, shops, restaurants and museums. Let our relaxing pace and waterfront community become your vacation destination!
