General information

Volunteer mentors work one on one with children in a structured program. Children who participate in the READ program experience positive outcomes such as increased reading time and improved reading ability and academic performance. In addition to reading with students, volunteers provide a caring person in a child's life, focus on individual strengths and development of the positive self esteem of each child, help improve the critical skills needed to become independent learners and foster a love of books.

Over 1100 children benefited from the good works of the 500+ volunteers who participated in our literacy mentor program during this past school year in over 40 centers held in elementary schools, neighborhood centers, libraries and churches throughout Saginaw County. Maintaining a strong quality initiative that supports literacy and volunteerism while developing positive mentor relationships that promotes the success of all children are primary goals of our organization.
