General information

WestwoodWinds is a community concert band that performs a range of musical styles and genres that reflect our shared American culture.

WestwoodWinds is made up of musicians who share a common interest in music that achieves its fullest expression through performance. Almost all of the members performed in band while they were students. The skills and passion for performing were begun and nurtured during the earlier days of their lives and have been rekindled by the opportunity to participate in WestwoodWinds.

Members range from mid teens through retirement, including current WHS students, college students, recent college graduates just entering their respective professions, working adults and retirees. Participation is voluntary and free to all residents of Westwood and surrounding communities.

The band is directed by James Giurleo, who retired as the K-12 Director of Performing Arts for the Westwood Public Schools in 2009. His life-long involvement in music education prompted him to continue creating opportunities for people to pursue their interest in music learning and performing through the creation of WestwoodWinds.

The ensemble meets during the summer when it prepares and performs music for three concerts. Through its concerts, its audience celebrates the skills and talents of our very own neighbors and friends.
