Moshkoff Studios

Moshkoff Studios is a family-run business dedicated to the art of decorative ceramic tile. Our workshops are located in the historic heart of St. Petersburg, Russia, on Moshkoff Street, not far from the Winter Palace. We are known for our artistry in handmade art tiles that incorporate innovative designs inspired by the fin-de-siècle Russian Arts and Crafts movement.

The founders of Moshkoff Studios are deeply inspired by the cultural heritage of our beloved St. Petersburg—the magnificent city of Pushkin, Dostoevsky, and Akhmatova, with its mysterious White Nights, severe winters, and rich artistic heritage. We grew up steeped in this heritage, and have been imprinting it onto art in various media since childhood. Our ancestors were St. Petersburg architects who left behind many distinguished buildings, and we feel a strong connection with them as we maintain the tradition of creating objects of lasting beauty.

The art of decorative tile in Russia has its own deep roots, its own distinctive traits. Using authentic pre-industrial techniques, Moshkoff Studios continues this tradition to produce both original designs and reproductions, for use in a wide range of projects. We manufacture a full line of ceramic tile: glazed and unglazed tiles in a variety of sizes and shapes, both off-the-shelf and custom-designed, for any indoor or outdoor use including walls, floors, kitchens, baths, fireplaces, and stairs.

At Moshkoff Studios, we work only with carefully selected, high-fire clays and glazes to ensure superior quality and durability. We employ only traditional, preindustrial techniques, which we feel are best suited to bringing out the quality of our materials and the craftsmanship of our artists. Our production techniques include such methods as cuenca, cuerda seca, slip-trailing, encaustic, carving, and mosaics. Each tile we produce bears an embossed mark of authenticity, confirming that it was made and glazed by hand in our workshops.
