Our commitment to industry leadership started in 1926 when two ambitious men, Jim Wills and Harold Swann, acquired the La Plata Oil Company and Mechanicsville Oil Company. They joined the companies together to form Southern Maryland Oil (SMO). In the early days, SMO handled only three products: kerosene, gasoline and motor oil.
The founders had but one dream: that SMO would be known for great client service. Our name and the number of services we provide may have changed, but over 87 years later we are proud to remain focused on the founders's primary goal.
Today, SMO Energy provides residents and commercial businesses of Southern Maryland with unmatched service in heating oil, propane and heating & cooling services. We take pride in providing excellent client service, knowledgeable technicians and competitive prices.
